Anabolic steroids” is a derivative of male sex hormone (testosterone). Their anabolic effects include growth of skeletal muscle and the development of male sexual characteristics in both sexes.

Anabolic steroids were primarily developed to treat hypogonadism, a condition in which testosterone occurs that affect normal growth, and sexual functioning. These also treat late puberty, some types of impotence, and wasting of the muscle mass caused by HIV infection or other diseases like cancer.

During early 1930s, scientists unintentionally discovered that anabolic steroids such as winstrol, clenbuterol and many more could aid the growth of skeletal muscle in laboratory specimens, which led to abuse of the drugs by bodybuilders and athletes in other sports. Steroid abuse is now, so common in atheletics that it can influence the outcomes of the contest.

In the U.S. federal government has banned the sale of steroids without registration. Only fifty countries allow the open sale of steroids and these drugs are smuggled from these countries in United State.

Winstrol, a synthetic anabolic steroid, was manufactures by Winthrop Laboratories in 1962 and has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for human use.
