Our hair is one of the most important and noticeable parts of our personality. We can use dye on it, style it, shave it off or cover it with a hat. In order to provide an opportunity for self-expression, hair scalp really does have positive effects. Hair is a specialized type of skin. The hair on scalp provides protection and maintains homeostasis. Hair also helps to filter out debris and contamination, like nasal hair, and protects from sun and wind such as eyelashes.
Hair Grooming
Your hair reflects your overall grooming. The sebum, that keep your skin moist also accumulate on your scalp hair. If your sebaceous glands produce large quantity of oil, it can give your hair oily or stringy look, so you may need to wash your hair daily. But if your body does not produce much sebum and your have fine and thin hair, less shampooing is better for your hair and scalp.
Some hair products contain toxic chemicals that can cause allergies. This is mostly seen with the products that change the hair, like perms, relaxers and hair dyes. These products can contain lye, acid, coal tar, and other ingredients that can sting, burn, discolor, cause hair loss and blister your scalp. If you want to use these products, read precautions on the label carefully and thoroughly wash out all the chemicals after use.
Scalp Problems
As like many other treatments, scalp treatments depend on the diagnosis of underlying cause. A healthy diet and good care can prevent common hair and scalp problems. Some common problem that has experienced by the people includes:
Dandruff
If you see white flakes on your shoulders, you could have dandruff. It is usually easily treated at home and a medicated shampoo can solve this problem.
Lice
Lice are tiny insects, mostly found in scalp of school going children. Lice can be passed from person to person by using combs, brushes and hats of one another. Lice live on the blood sucked from the scalp and cause terrible itch. Lice must be treated with special shampoo.
Hair loss
There are so many factors associated with hair loss. One condition is called alopecia in which, patches form after hair fall. Alopecia usually occurs due to autoimmune disorders. This condition is not contagious and hair loss is temporary.
Ringworm
Ringworm is a fungal infection and it is highly contagious. It spreads by sharing combs, brushes, hats and clothing. It is treated with antifungal pills and shampoos.
