Do anti-hypertensive drugs act on men and women in the same manner? A team of researchers from Australia report that, vast ranges of treatments for hypertension have same effects, irrespective of the sexes.

Dr. Fiona from Sydney said collective data from 31 previous studies involving 103,268 men and 87,349 women who voluntarily took part in anti-hypertensive treatment trials.

A large study on the high blood pressure treatment reveals that, treatment with the benazepril (ACE inhibitor) in combination with amlodipine (calcium channel blocker) provides better control on hypertension than treatment with benazepril plus hydrochlorothiazide (diuretic), in reducing the death rate due to cardiovascular diseases.

In this specific randomized, double-blind study, 11,506 hypertensive patients with high risk for heart problems were assigned to the above mentioned combinations.

Both combinations showed excellent rate for anti-hypertensive activity, the researchers noticed. However, obvious difference between-group was in the initial outcome. Death due to cardiovascular causes, led to early execution of the trial, within 36months.

Origin

Salvia divinorum is a psychoactive mint native planet of Mexico having a long and continuing tradition of use as an entheogen by indigenous Mazatec shamans, who use it to facilitate visionary states of consciousness during spiritual healing sessions.

The plant is found in isolated, shaded, and moist plots in Oaxaca, Mexico. It grows to well over a meter in height. It has hollow square stems, large green leaves, and occasional white and purple flowers. It is thought to be a cultigen.

Salvinorin-A, the active ingredient of salvia divinorum, is considered to be the most potent, selective and naturally occurring hallucinogen when smoked, rivaling the potency of the synthetic hallucinogens like LSD.

Special Features

Its effects are unique and cannot be compared with the effects of other drugs. The effects of Salvia do not appeal to many people. The people who are most drawn to it are both mature and philosophically minded. Beware of inaccurate information. There are many unethical vendors who try to lure naive customers by portraying the effects of Salvia as more appealing than they are in reality.

LONDON (Reuters) – A Chinese herbal medicine known as “horny goat weed” is a potent substitute of Viagra for impotent men, Italian researchers said.

The herb has established its repute as a natural aphrodisiac. The research, which did not observe whether the herb truly increases desire, could lead to new drugs to help men get erections, said Mario Dell’Agli, who led the study.

“This could be the natural Viagra. The novelty is that we have synthesized a new molecule that one day may be able to replace Viagra.”
