You should think of the various types of vegetables as five different subgroups.  These subgroups include dark green vegetables, such as romaine lettuce, broccoli, and spinach and turnips.</p>
<p>Then there are the orange vegetables, for example carrots, pumpkins and sweet potatoes. The next subgroup includes dry beans and peas, such as kidney beans, black beans, white beans, tofu, lentils and soybeans.<br />

<p>&#8220;In an apparently healthy population, even a small reduction of a low-grade inflammation such as that associated in this study with regular consumption of dark chocolate might have clinically relevant benefits in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease,&#8221; Dr. Romina di Giuseppe of Catholic University in Campobasso.</p>
<p>The inflammation was resolute by measuring levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), a biomarker for coronary artery disease (CAD), the researchers reported. Researchers hypothesized that people who eat dark chocolate regularly, which contains enormous antioxidants, might have lower CRP levels.</p>
<p><span id="more-249"></span>To investigate, they collect data of 4,849 healthy men and women who were participating in the Moli-sani Project. Among these, 1,317 people who had scarcely eaten any chocolate in the past, and 824 who use dark chocolate constantly. Most of them eat dark chocolate almost 5.7 grams each day.</p>
<p>CRP levels on average was 1.32 mg/L in participants who did not eat dark chocolate, compared to 1.10 mg/L in dark chocolate consumers. Dark chocolate consumers had healthier diets than those who didn&#8217;t. They were also younger and of higher social status, but less likely to exercise. Researchers adjusted other relevant factors, but the relationship between eating dark chocolate and lower CRP remained.</p>
<p>The CRP levels seen in the dark chocolate user corresponds to a &#8220;mild&#8221; risk of cardiovascular disease, whereas CRP levels in the non-consumers would be associated with &#8220;moderate&#8221; risk, researcher note.</p>
<p>The advantages were seen when people ate up to one 40-gram of dark chocolate in a week, but eating more chocolate wasn&#8217;t more beneficial. In fact, CRP levels starts to lower at higher consumption levels, the researchers found.</p>

<p>Researchers came to know that among 87 healthy men ages 19 to 48, obese were less likely to be a father. Precisely, they exhibit hormonal variation that leads to a reduced reproductive capacity, the researchers report in the journal Fertility and Sterility.</p>
<p>As compare to thinner men, obese had reduced levels of testosterone in their blood, as well as poorer levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), both hormones are essential for reproduction.</p>
<p><span id="more-194"></span>Researchers said, these comparatively low levels of LH and FSH are indicative of a &#8220;partial&#8221; hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, a condition in which the testes do not work appropriately due to weak signals from hypothalamus or pituitary gland, two important parts of brain involved in hormone secretion for endocrine system.</p>
<p>Researchers suggest that obesity alone is a key &#8220;infertility factor&#8221; in so-called healthy men, write Dr. Eric M. Pauli.</p>
<p>When the researchers examined the men for various reproductive hormones, they confirm that the LH and FSH levels are inversely proportional to the obesity. On the other side, increasing obesity can be associated with elevating estrogen levels.</p>
<p>Pauli&#8217;s team explained that, excessive body fats increase the conversion of testosterone to estrogen in a man&#8217;s blood. Such hormone alterations could signal the brain to reduce or even stop FSH and LH production.</p>
<p>Previous studies have linked obesity with a dampened libido and higher risk of erectile dysfunction, the researchers note. Those effects along with the hormonal alterations seen in this study, could act together to decrease an obese man&#8217;s fertility, researcher said.</p>

<p>Whether the quantity of BPA that leaches into food and beverages through container, represents an environmental risk is a subject of argument.</p>
<p><span id="more-50"></span>&#8220;Our primate model indicates that BPA could negatively affect brain function in humans,&#8221; study investigator Tibor Hajszan said.</p>
<p>Hajszan and colleagues examined the effect of continuous exposure to BPA at a daily dose recommended by US Environmental Protection Agency&#8217;s (EPA) according to current reference safe daily limit that is 50 micrograms/Kg in young adult African green monkeys.</p>
<p>Research proceedings show that, BPA completely deteriorate the structure of some nerve connections in two important regions of the brain which include hippocampus and prefrontal cortex.</p>
<p>These findings have &#8220;thoughtful implications,&#8221; the investigators maintain, given the critical role of these nerve associations in cognition and mood.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&#8220;Based on these findings, we think the EPA may wish to consider lowering its &#8216;safe daily limit&#8217; for human BPA consumption,&#8221; Hajszan said</p>

<p>According the website statement of the company, after seven cases of E. coli infection in Massachusetts and two in Pennsylvania were linked to the product, they recall affects of ground beef sold by Whole Foods.</p>
<p><span id="more-29"></span>Whole Foods said this “beef apparently came from Coleman Natural Beef, whose Nebraska Beef processing plant was previously subject to a nationwide recall for E. coli 0157:H7 contamination.&#8221;</p>
<p>This second batch of potentially E. coli-tainted ground beef from Nebraska Beef involves relatively modest quantities purchased by Whole Foods Market, said the spokesman of the supermarket chain.</p>
<p>“Whole Foods has begun an internal inquiry after receiving assurances from Coleman Natural Beef that no product delivered to Whole Foods Market was linked to the (previous) recall of Nebraska Beef products”, company spokesperson Libba Letton said.</p>
<p>She told that all tests conducted with the recalled Whole Foods ground beef so far have not detected any E. coli infection.</p>
<p>E. coli bacteria can produce nausea, diarrhea and potentially lethal kidney problems, particularly threatening people with weak immune systems such as the elderly and babies.</p>
<p>In the United States, probable 73,000 cases of E. coli infection arise each year, and almost 60 of those ending in death, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>New research claims that drinking tea may find health beneficial. Black, oolong, green or white teas have a common source. All teas are produced from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis bush. The leaves are loaded with flavonoids and other polyphenols that work as antioxidants, possibly lowering the risk of some diseases.</p>
<p>Green tea, which originates in China but is now consumed all over the world, is made with pure leaves, and has undergone little oxidization during processing. Polyphenol content of green tea has antioxidant property that can help to prevent cancer.</p>
<p><span id="more-24"></span>Green tea also made 20% of drug-resistant bacteria susceptible to one of the cephalosporin antibiotics. These are important antibiotics that new drug resistant strains of bacteria have evolved to resist. There is also a suggestion that it can increase endurance in exercise by improving fat metabolism. But the actual benefits of drinking tea are not certain. Most research about tea’s benefits is based on epidemiological studies.</p>
<p>The researchers show that, tea acts at the cellular level by inhibiting inflammatory pathways to reduce inflammation, the study published in the open access journal BMC Medicine. They also said that, tea extracts reduce the interval of radiation-induced skin damage by up to 10 days in patients who received radiation treatment. Green tea extracts are more effective than black tea extracts in some patients of skin damage.</p>
<p>According to Dr Mervat Kassem from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Alexandria University in Egypt &#8220;We tested green tea in combination with antibiotics against 28 disease causing micro-organisms belonging to two different classes, in every single case, green tea enhanced the bacteria-killing activity of the antibiotics.”</p>
<p><strong>Cardiovascular</strong></p>
<p>Researchers have found that, the use of green tea rapidly improves the function of (endothelial) cells lining the circulatory system. Endothelial dysfunction is a key event in the progression of atherosclerosis. While black tea has been associated with improved short and long-term endothelial performance. Another study has already shown that green tea reverses endothelial dysfunction in smokers.</p>
<p>The evidence shows that regularly drinking green tea may reduce heart attack risk. But there is a contradictory fact on black tea consumption and heart attack risk reduction. It still needs further research to prove that, if drinking tea over long periods might positively affect cholesterol levels, blood pressure and atherosclerosis.</p>
<p><strong>Cancer</strong></p>
<p>The research claims that green tea polyphenol content has antioxidant properties that can help prevent cancer.  It still needs research whether regular black tea consumption influences cancer rates. Early lab tests with white tea indicate it may protect against colon cancer in particular but it requires more research.</p>
<p><strong>Bone health</strong></p>
<p>Previous studies have indicated that regular tea consumption might improve bone mineral density in older people. The recent research indicates that, green tea could be beneficial in reducing inflammation related to arthritis and slowing cartilage breakdown.</p>
<p><strong>Memory</strong></p>
<p>Recent studies found that old people in Japan who drank green tea daily showed reduced risk of memory complexity, than those who didn’t drink tea on a regular basis. While there is still much to study about benefits of tea, the possible benefits seem to be in the cup, not in supplements or tea extract capsules.</p>
<p>Dr Vlachopoulos says &#8220;Tea consumption has been associated with reduced cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in several studies. Green tea is consumed less in the Western world than black tea, but it could be more beneficial because of the way it seems to improve endothelial function. In this same context, recent studies have also shown potent anticarcinogenic effects of green tea, attributed to its antioxidant properties.&#8221;</p>

<p>Consumer advocates taking part in a food safety conference in Orlando, Fla., this week said food created by using nanotechnology is silently spreading onto the market, and they want United States authorities to force nano-food manufacturers to identify them.</p>
<p><span id="more-7"></span>The nanotechnology bases on the design and manipulation of materials. It works on molecular level, invisible to the naked eye. Nanotechnology applying companies claim it can increase the aroma or nutritional value of food.</p>
<p>U.S. health officials generally prefer not to place warning labels on products unless there are clear reasons for caution or concern. But consumer advocates say uncertainty over health consequences alone is sufficient cause to justify identifying nano-foods.</p>
<p>&#8220;I think nanotechnology is the new genetic engineering. People just don&#8217;t know what&#8217;s going on, and it&#8217;s moving so fast,&#8221; Jane Kolodinsky, a consumer economist at the University of Vermont, said at the conference.</p>
<p>Americans are normally more satisfied about genetically modified or cloned foods than their counterparts in Europe.</p>
<p>But Michael Hansen, a senior scientist with the Consumers Union, said “polls show that 69 percent of Americans are disturbed about eating cloned meat.”</p>
<p>He also said no parents were keen to feed their children with cloned animal meat.</p>
<p>In a recent CBS/New York Times poll, 53 percent of Americans said they wouldn&#8217;t buy genetically modified foods.</p>
<p>Hansen said there is slight public awareness about foods produced through nanotechnology. New consumer products by using nanotechnology are coming on the market at the rate of 3 to 4 per week, according to an advocacy group, The Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies (PEN), based on an inventory it has drawn up of 609 known or claimed nano-products.</p>
<p>Nano-products are common today includes tennis rackets, bicycles, and sunscreens containing lucid, nonwhite versions of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.</p>
<p>Lipsticks are also included, and many items labeled as anti-microbial that contain silver ions such as socks, washing machines, salad spinners and food containers.</p>
<p>Hansen, whose organization publishes the nonprofit product-testing magazine Consumer Reports, said there is no requirement that nano-products be identified as such.</p>
<p>He called for stronger federal regulations to require safety testing and labeling.</p>
<p>&#8220;Just because something is safe at the macro level, doesn&#8217;t mean it&#8217;s safe at the nano size,&#8221; Hansen said. &#8220;All scientists agree that size matters.&#8221;</p>
<p>Recent studies have proven that nano-sized particles in few cases can penetrate in cells and break the blood-brain barrier, and some forms of nano-sized carbon might be as harmful as asbestos if inhaled in excessive quantity.</p>
<p>&#8220;This represents science at the cutting edge. These technologies raise basic scientific issues,&#8221; Hansen said.</p>
