“We found in all three groups, those who played a lot of violent video games in early school year leads to higher levels of aggression, as measured later in the school year,” lead researcher Dr. Craig A. Anderson, explained.

The results are based on two groups of teenagers from Japan 1,231 teens in all and 364 from the U.S. In the start, participants estimated how often they played violent video games, and then their own aggression was followed for next six months.

Researchers found that, kids who regularly played violent video games were increasingly involved in physical quarrels.

Of course, not all kids who play such games practice out in real life. Nor violence on media is alone responsible for teenagers’ aggression, the researchers point out.

But these video games make the teens mind in such a way that they consider violence as a normal and acceptable way to react to everyday conflicts, like getting bumped in the school hallway. “It is important to realize that violent video games do not create schools shooters. But this study shows that they are one part of the puzzle in both America and Japan.” researchers said.

Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML) usually occurs in children and leukemia symptoms include fevers, poor growth, and infections.

Diagnosis of JMML, in early stage is utmost important, since the only treatment is a bone marrow transplant. Current diagnosis of JMML involves monitoring the response of JMML cells to a growth-stimulating factor called GM-CSF, which takes two to three weeks for cells growth in the laboratory.

Now researchers had discovered a new technique that based on flow cytometry.

In flow cytometry, fluorescently marked antibodies are used for cells classification, depends on proteins on their outer surface. The new method proceeds by injecting antibodies inside the cell to bind to target proteins.

To diagnose leukemia, an antibody that binds only to the activated form of a protein called STAT5 is used in cell sample of twelve JMML patients. Eleven out of twelve JMML cell samples show high levels of STAT5 against low doses of GM-CSF.

“I was surprised how much more we can learn about the inner nature of these cells by ‘interrogating’ them with different conditions,” senior co-author Garry Nolan said, “Time and again, we are finding this to be a powerful amplifier of the fate of a diseased cell and a good way to understand why it responds to certain treatments and not others.”

Because the new technique can track disease progress, the researchers are trying to monitor the effectiveness of potential drug treatments for JMML and other disorders through it.

“Identifying populations of cells by their responses to specific stimuli will facilitate our ability to assess the efficacy of specific agents in relevant subsets with increased precision,” researchers said in a release.

The study was published in the journal Lancet along with two different studies, which reveal that runny noses and wheezing in early days of life may be clear sign of asthma.

In the first study, researchers analyze data of more than 205,000 children and came to know that paracetamol use in infancy was associated with a 46 percent higher risk of asthma by the time the children were 6 or 7 compared to those never exposed to the drug.

Use of paracetamol in the last year has increased asthma risk by 61 percent, while high dosages of once a month or more in the past few years, raised the risk by three folds worldwide.

According to a hypothesis, paracetamol reduces antioxidants in the body. Some scientists think antioxidants, which stop free radicals from damaging body, can minimize the risk of cancer, heart disease and other ailments.

“Paracetamol can reduce antioxidant levels and … that can give oxidative stress in the lungs and cause asthma,” one of the researchers, Richard Beasley at the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand, told Reuters.

In a supplementary comment, Suzanne Lau of Charite University Medicine in Germany wrote, “These findings identify a population at risk of chronic obstructive airway disease in early adulthood, and they already showed a predisposition during preschool years.”

Efforts to support breastfeeding, immunizations and eradication of malaria, have helped to cut down child death rate from 9.7 million to 9.2 in 2007 which was 12.7 million in 1990, the figures from the United Nations Children’s Fund showed.

“Since 1960, the global under-five mortality rate has declined more than 60 percent, and the new data shows the downward trend continues,” UNICEF Executive Director Ann Veneman said.

Situation is improving in Latin America and the Caribbean, Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and in parts of Asia where trend is moving downward, but deaths still high in sub-Saharan Africa where one out of seven children dies before age 5.

AIDS is still a chief killer of children in sub-Saharan Africa, though countries like Eritrea, Malawi, Mozambique, Niger and Ethiopia have made considerable progress in reducing mortality rates, UNICEF said.

“Sub-Saharan Africa now accounts for almost half of the 9.2 million deaths among children in this age group annually,” according to the UNICEF report.
World’s worst under-five mortality rate noted in Sierra Leone, 262 out of every 1,000 children dying before their fifth birthday. The rate in developed nations was 6 per 1,000.

“Recent data also indicate encouraging developments in many of the basic health interventions, such as early and exclusive breast feeding, measles immunization, Vitamin A supplementation, the use of insecticide-treated nets to prevent malaria, and prevention and treatment of AIDS,” Veneman said.

“These interventions are expected to result in further declines in child mortality over the coming years.”

Chickenpox

The symptoms of Fifth disease are a child has red fleck on the cheeks, nose, arms, thighs and buttocks. Fifth disease is often known as ‘slapped cheek’. Mostly the children of 4 to 12 become the victim of this disease. The symptoms and infection exposed within two week. It can last up to 14 days and rarely causes a fever. There is no treatment of this disease it disappears by itself. Usually quite a mild illness can experience. The disease is no longer infectious. This disease can be danger for pregnant women so they should avoid being in contact with children with fifth disease as it may cause a miscarriage.

Roseola Infantum (three-day-fever)

In the symptoms of this disease the kid suffers three-day-fever and his body covers with pink rash. It is mostly seen in children under the age of three years. The symptoms exposed take 10 to 15 days. This disease is contagious during the whole period and up to three days after cure. Avoid contact with other kids during the course of illness. Keep the child undress and in cool place and contact doctor for medication.

Blisters in mouth, (also on foot and hand)

The symptoms show the child has a large number of small spots and blisters, mostly in the mouth, on the feet and hands. The disease can cause a slight fever for a few days. It takes 2 to 3 days for being exposed to the infection. The contagious can exist as long as sport present. For treatment it is important to make sure the child gets plenty to drink. The parents should see their doctor too.

Scarlet fever

You can find the child has a slight to moderate fever, a sore throat and a rash which is often located in their armpits in the symptom of this disease. The child’s skin peels and they get coarseness, pink tongue (known as strawberry tongue). It can take 3 to 8 days being exposed to the infection. For treatment of this disease contact the physician. It is important to keep the child at home and avoid contact with other children.
